HAZARAPHULKARI

Made to Order

Custom Phulkari Shawls

If nothing in the collection is quite right, a piece can be embroidered to your requirements. Colour, motif, fabric, size and density of work are all decided in conversation before anything begins.

Custom work follows the same slow process as everything else we make, so timelines depend on the complexity of the embroidery you choose.

What We Discuss

Decisions made before the first stitch

Colour

Tell us the shades you want, or the outfit or occasion the shawl is for, and we will suggest a palette that works in thread.

Motifs

Geometric, floral or leaf-based motifs can be requested, as can the density of the pattern across the field.

Fabric

The ground fabric affects both the look and the weight of the finished shawl, and is chosen alongside the design.

Coverage

An open Phulkari or a densely embroidered Bagh: the choice changes the character of the piece and the time required.

Size

Shawl dimensions can be discussed at the outset so the proportions of the pattern suit the finished piece.

Timeline

Handwork sets the pace. We will give you an honest estimate before anything begins rather than promising a date we cannot keep.

The Process

How a commission works

  1. 01

Send us a message describing what you have in mind.

  2. 02

We discuss colours, motifs, fabric, size and coverage together.

  3. 03

We confirm what is possible, along with a realistic timeline.

  4. 04

Embroidery begins, and we keep you updated as the work progresses.

  5. 05

The finished shawl is photographed and sent to you.

Nothing is committed until the details are agreed. If what you want is not practical in hand embroidery, we will say so and suggest an alternative.
